Hi, I’m Jen! I’ve been volunteering with Wild Blue since September of last year. I quickly became involved in several different aspects of the rescue and have loved every single second
of it!
I first came into contact with Wild Blue after trapping a stray kitty at my apartment complex. He was terrified and shut down, and the shelter I took him to said he was unadoptable because of this. But I knew there was a special little soul in there and I couldn’t bear to give up on him. He lived in my bathroom for four days while I searched for a home for him, and true to my instincts he became an absolute love bug once he realized he was safe. I got deeply attached to him and it broke my heart not to keep him, but it just wasn’t the right time in my life. Ultimately, Wild Blue took him into their barn cat program. But my gratitude for their willingness to help this special boy really stuck with me. It meant the world to me that they stepped in when everyone else turned him away. I knew I wanted to give back, and that’s how I ended up volunteering…even though I live 50 miles away! (Worth it.)
My time as a volunteer has been profound and transformative – I knew it would be satisfying to help the kitties because I’ve always been passionate about that and working in rescue is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. However, I was completely taken by surprise at the human connections and how inspired I’d feel by my fellow volunteers! There’s something so special about being able to come together with people from all walks of life all united around one common goal. I have loved being a part of this amazing community and it has healed my soul in ways I never expected. Anyone who knows me understands that this is now a central part of my life and something I’m extremely proud of!
When I’m not loving on the Wild Blue kitties, you can find me with my own four cats (one of whom was adopted from Wild Blue!). I am a huge sci-fi nerd/devout Trekkie, gamer, and avid reader – but I also love being outdoors and enjoying all the natural beauty Colorado has to offer. I’m also a wife to an incredibly sweet and kind husband (who has fully accepted his role as Cat Daddy after meeting me) and an aunt to seven amazing nieces and nephews who I’m extraordinarily proud of!
